I am pleased to share that the Borough of Florham Park has been awarded a $61,512 Local Recreation Improvement Grant (LRIG) from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to fund ADA-accessible playground equipment and benches at Tot Lot Playground near the Recreation Center and Volunteers Park Playground.
The LRIG program, administered by the Division of Local Government Services, is part of a $9.9 million statewide initiative supporting improvements to parks, playgrounds, and other recreational facilities. This competitive grant program helps local governments enhance public access to quality outdoor spaces that promote health, recreation, and community connection.
The Borough’s project includes the installation of ADA-compliant playground equipment at the Tot Lot playground. This new equipment is designed to accommodate children with physical, sensory, and cognitive disabilities, allowing inclusive play alongside their peers. In addition, benches will be installed at both Elm Street and Volunteers Park to provide safe, comfortable seating for caregivers, seniors, and individuals with limited mobility, supporting multigenerational use and supervision of play areas. These improvements reflect our commitment to fostering welcoming, equitable public spaces and building community.
“This funding allows us to take an important step toward making our parks more inclusive and welcoming for everyone in our community,” said Mayor Taylor. “We are proud to continue investing in public spaces that support accessibility, recreation, and quality of life for all residents.”
Project completion is anticipated later this year.
